Please read this entire page so you can be up to date with everything you'll need for a fabulous 2024 league season!
League Nights
Do I have to bring a ball?
- Yes!
- 4s & 6s teams: Your team will receive one volleyball included with your registration fee. You will be responsible for bringing it with you each week.
- 2s teams: GAV does not provide game balls or balls to warm up with.
What if it’s raining?
- A little rain can’t hurt! #youwontmelt
- We will only cancel if there is a big threat of thunder/lightning in the area during game time.
- Please do not call, email, or message regarding the status of leagues.
- We will only notify you in the event a league night is canceled. Assume it is on unless you hear otherwise!
- Cancellation decisions will be texted two hours prior to the start of an event.
- Leagues start at 6:15pm, so cancellations are sent around 4:15pm. If you sign up for the alerts after that time, you will not receive the alert that day.
- Tap the SMS Opt In button at the bottom of every gav.volleyballlife.com page to sign up. You must also be on the roster in order to receive the alerts.
- We try to play rain or shine because we do not have any make up dates available.
Can I bring my drinks on the beach?
- Point Pleasant - No alcohol is allowed on the beach. Teams found with alcohol resulting in an issue with Jenkinson's or the Borough of Point Pleasant Beach will be banned from participating with no refund.
- Bradley Beach - Bradley Beach does not allow alcohol on their beaches.
Schedule/Results/Playoffs
When will the schedule be posted?
- Your pool assignment will be posted no later than 4pm the day of your league.
- Plan to start playing at 6:15pm every night.
What is the format?
- Teams play against the teams in their pool and take turns reffing.
- Follow the schedule and enter scores on gav.volleyballlife.com
- Games should finish by 8:00pm.
- Play through the schedule one time.
- Each team should double check that scores are entered correctly before the end of the night. Scores will not be changed afterwards.
What if a team is late?
- If the late team is supposed to be playing, please switch the games around so play can start ASAP with the teams that are present.
- If the team is supposed to be reffing, start playing without them.
What if a team leaves before the schedule is played through?
- Any unplayed games will be recorded as a forfeit with a score of 21-11.
I already played this team. Can you change the schedule?
- We do our best to create the schedule to include teams you haven’t seen yet this year.
- Sometimes you will play a team two or more times throughout the season.
- You may not play every team in the league.
- The schedule will not be changed based on the number of times you have played a team.
What if my team’s record is wrong online?
- Make sure you check the scores before your team leaves for the night!
- Scores will not be changed afterwards.
What if my team can’t make it?
- ALL LEAGUES: There are no bye weeks this season. You can add subs to your roster before the deadline. A match can count as long as there is one rostered player present.
- If you are not able to field a team, your team will forfeit the scheduled matches with scores of 21-11.
- Email info@greatamericanvolleyball.com to let us know you are not coming, so we can notify the other teams.
How many teams make playoffs?
- The top 8 teams will make playoffs.
Can we still play the last night if we don’t make playoffs?
- Yes! The nets will be up and you can play against any of the other teams that come or your own teammates.
- This will also be the night of the Players Party, so you won't want to miss it!
My team is next in the seeding. If a team can’t make playoffs, can my team fill in?
- No. The missing team receives a loss and the other team advances in the bracket.
Bradley Beach 2s Leagues FAQ
Does each player have to sign in?
- Yes! Each player must sign in so we can track who is eligible for playoffs.
- Players need to play on a team 2 or more nights to qualify for playoffs.
How many times does a person have to play to qualify for playoffs?
- Players must be on the roster and play 2 or more nights on the same team.
Can a coed team play in the men’s/women’s league? What about two women playing in the men’s league?
What rules should we use?
- In general, follow the GAV 2s tournament rules.
- Rule disputes can be brought to the league director. The league director can answer questions about the rules, but ultimately it is up to the ref’s discretion to make a call.
- Please be respectful of the ref’s decision. #justbecool
- If you do not have a ref for your match, please be good sports when discussing calls. Any disputed calls can be replayed if an agreement cannot be reached. #justbecool
- No open hand tips.
- A block does count as a touch.
- You can receive with your hands apart, however cannot be controlled with fingertips unless it is clean.
- Lifts and carries are NOT allowed.
- Touching the net at any time is illegal, unless it is from the outside of the antenna to the pole.
Point Pleasant Coed 4s/6s FAQ
What happens if my team doesn’t have all its players?
- You can still play without a full team!
- Coed 4s -
- There must be at least 1 male and 1 female on the court at all times.
- Coed 6s -
- If you have 6 players, you must have at least 2 females and 2 males.
- If you have 5 or fewer players, you must have at least 1 female and 1 male.
- If you do not have enough players to field the minimum requirements, you can still play, but all your games will be recorded as forfeits.
What rules should we use for 6s?
- Rule disputes can be brought to the league director. The league director can answer questions about the rules, but ultimately it is up to the ref’s discretion to make a call.
- Please be respectful of the ref’s decision. #justbecool
- If you do not have a ref for your match, please be good sports when discussing calls. Any disputed calls can be replayed if an agreement cannot be reached. #justbecool
- A block does not count as a touch.
- Open hand receive is okay.
- Lifts and carries are NOT allowed.
- Touching the net at any time is illegal, unless it is from the outside of the antenna to the pole.
- All players must rotate. A player can move after serving to a different position, however cannot attack the front row from the back. Use your best judgment about back row attacks since there is no 10’ line.
What rules should we use for 4s?
- Rule disputes can be brought to the league director. The league director can answer questions about the rules, but ultimately it is up to the ref’s discretion to make a call.
- Please be respectful of the ref’s decision. #justbecool
- If you do not have a ref for your match, please be good sports when discussing calls. Any disputed calls can be replayed if an agreement cannot be reached. #justbecool
- No open hand tips.

- Open hand receive is okay.
- Lifts and carries are NOT allowed.
- Touching the net at any time is illegal, unless it is from the outside of the antenna to the pole.
- Players must maintain service rotation, but players do not have to rotate position.
Tournaments
I want to play in GAV tournaments on the weekend. Do I get a discount?
- Rostered summer league players receive a $20/team discount when they register for a Men's, Women's or Coed tournament.
- Promo code is valid for AA, A, BB, B divisions for tournaments scheduled May through September 2024.
- Schedule is up on gav.volleyballlife.com. Use ____ at checkout to receive your discount!
- Please remember to apply it before you pay. We really do not want to be caught up with the transaction fees to refund this to you.
I want to play on the weekend, but 2s isn't really my thing. Can I still play?
- Yes! We will be hosting at least one 6s tournament and one 4s tournament this summer! SCHEDULE COMING SOON!
- Coed 6s & Coed 4s League Teams receive discounts for 6s/4s divisions at these tournaments. Promo code coming soon!
Registration
How do I know which level to sign up for?
- Coed 6s Rec 1 -
- Your team finished with more wins than losses in the 2022 GAV Rec league.
- Loosely enforced rules, but stricter than Rec 2
- Players with limited volleyball experience/training
- Players have more consistent passing, setting and hitting abilities
- Teams that have played some organized volleyball at the rec level
- Coed 6s Rec 2 -
- Your team finished with more losses than wins in the 2022 GAV Rec league.
- Loosely enforced rules
- Players with limited volleyball experience/training
- Players have inconsistent passing, setting and hitting abilities
- Teams that are newer to organized volleyball
- Coed 4s -
- Strictly enforced rules
- Players with considerable formal training/experience
- Players can pass, set and hit consistently
- Teams that have participated in organized volleyball
- Men's/Women's/Coed 2s -
- strictly enforced rules
- players can pass, set and hit consistently
- AA=the highest level of league play available
- A/B=lower level of 2s league play, however players have a considerable amount of experience
How many players can be on my roster?
- Men's/Women's/Coed 2s - max 4
- Coed 4s - max 7
- Coed 6s - max 10
I am the team captain. How do I update my roster?
- Before registration closes you can update your roster using the modify link in your confirmation email or by logging into your account on gav.volleyballlife.com.
- After registration closes, email all changes to info@greatamericanvolleyball.com by the deadline.
When will we get our tshirts?
- Shirts will be available ASAP, usually mid-season.
- Sizes (S/M/L/XL/XXL) will be handed out according the number of players and sizes submitted on your roster as of the roster change deadline.
I changed my mind. Can I have a refund?
- Refund requests made 30 days or more prior to the scheduled start date are subject to a 10% processing fee.
- Refund requests made within 30 days of the start date can not be accommodated.
